Research on victims of crime (VIKTI III)

Annotation:
Victim/victimisation surveys are a widely recognised and widespread type of research project. Their greatest strength is their ability to provide a wide range of information on crime, its development and context. At the same time, they are not limited by official statistical data. Victim surveys are considered the most reliable method of investigating latent crime and obtaining a comprehensive understanding of its real impact on the population. In this context, the IKSP is in a unique position, not only within the Czech Republic, but also internationally, as it has over 30 years' experience of implementing and guaranteeing this type of research at a national level. The present project is therefore a continuation of the long-standing tradition of Czech victimisation research. To compare data over time and examine trends, these surveys must be periodically repeated with the same methodology. The project will therefore largely build on previous research. The primary objective of the research is to provide additional information on the extent and composition of crime in the Czech Republic, including its hidden aspects. The research will focus on a representative questionnaire survey examining the victimisation of the population by selected offences during the review period. However, the questionnaire will also include a module on a current criminological topic which will not be repeated. As in the previous two waves, the main quantitative survey will be supplemented by a qualitative sub-study, providing a more comprehensive view of crime and victimisation.
