Ongoing monitoring and analysis of crime and sanction policy developments
Valuable and necessary information on crime and the measures taken to control it can be obtained from a number of sources. However, if they are to serve as a reliable basis for criminal policy, their aggregate analysis requires an appropriately critical approach, including consideration of all aspects related to the manner and purpose of collecting such data and their real predictive value. Moreover, by continuously monitoring the development of crime and the sanctions imposed, it is possible to identify which sub-problems or specific forms of crime should be particularly targeted by criminological research and society as a whole.
