The effectiveness of probation and re-socialisation programmes
Annotation:
Probation and re-socialisation programmes provide a structured approach to working with offenders, aiming to change their behaviour and encourage self-reflection on their criminal activity. Offenders can be placed on these programmes as part of a court or prosecutor's decision, or by voluntary consent. In the Czech Republic, these programmes are provided by non-state, non-profit organisations thanks to the Ministry of the Interior's (MSp) subsidy system. Since 2021, these have also been supplemented by re-socialisation programmes offered by PMS Programme Centres. This research project will examine the experience of these interventions from the perspectives of both implementers and participants. Particular attention will be paid to the programmes' effectiveness, not only to determine the recidivism rate, but also to evaluate the extent to which their focus and implementation correspond to the real-life situations of offenders and the needs and risk factors related to the desistance process. The results should contribute to the further development of these programmes in the Czech Republic, making them more effective.
