Criminal justice issues: program evaluation, crime prevention, fear of crime and recidivism - the perspective of Australian criminologists.
Anotation
This publication, from the PRAMENY series, offers a collection of original texts, mostly published for the first time and prepared directly for the IKSP book edition. The texts focus on one of the key areas of criminological interest - crime prevention and the prevention of fear of crime. The book thus offers a more general reflection on the question - how to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention programs, including a brief evolutionary excursion from the "nothing works" approach to today's more sober "what works" view, including why something works and what obstacles stand in the way. Emphasis is also placed on building the evaluation of prevention programmes on theoretical foundations. Another text highlights the importance of applying psychology to criminal justice. A specific type of prevention is addressed by another leading Australian prevention expert, namely motor vehicle theft. The publication concludes with a paper dealing with the phenomenon of fear of crime.
