The current state of crime prevention in the Czech Republic
Annotation:
For two decades, the IKSP has been conducting representative research surveys focused on citizens' perceptions of undesirable social phenomena, in close cooperation with the Crime Prevention Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic and the Republic Committee for Crime Prevention. This joint project will continue to examine citizens' knowledge, opinions and attitudes, especially with regard to the state and development of crime, feelings of threat from crime, preventive measures, and the evaluation of police activity. This research has the potential to provide policymakers and implementers of crime policy and crime prevention strategies with important feedback.
A second research direction will be a follow-up to the expert survey conducted among crime prevention managers in municipalities. Based on an analysis of local managers' positive and negative evaluations of prevention projects, the impact of these programmes on their users and the factors influencing their effectiveness will be assessed. The focus will be on the preventive effect of urban CCTV systems. These findings should then inform the planning of national social and situational prevention projects, as well as future support for progressive local initiatives.
