Victimology
Victim research has traditionally been regarded as the most reliable way to penetrate the field of latent crime and to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the real impact of crime on the population. Indeed, the data provided by official statistics on crime and its extent, structure and evolution are heavily distorted by a variety of factors.
Moreover, victimological research has consistently paid attention to such important issues as the needs of victims, the functioning of their support system or the possibility of exercising their rights in criminal proceedings and the principles of restorative justice in dealing with the consequences of criminal acts.
