Behind Closed Doors: The Impact of Incarceration on Families

Annotation:
Criminology provides ample evidence of the profoundly negative impact that a parent's imprisonment can have on their children, particularly if they had been their primary carer. This study introduces readers to this issue in the Czech context. Based on a questionnaire survey of social workers and special educators working in prisons, as well as interviews with representatives of non-profit organisations that support families of prisoners and a prison psychologist, it provides an overview of the issue. The findings are then placed in the context of international criminological research.
