Cybercrime from the perspective of justice system and everyday users

Anotation
The publication summarises the findings from a representative questionnaire survey and analysis of criminal files conducted in the IKSP in 2020-2023. It reflects on the legal regulation of cybercrime in the Czech Republic and outlines selected aspects of related criminal proceedings of offenders who were finally convicted in 2019, including the presentation of specific cases. The core part of the publication presents the results of a large-scale questionnaire survey of the Czech internet population in 2020. It presents findings on the security habits of internet users, the use of different devices to access the internet, experiences with the darkweb or reactions to online victimisation, or the latency rates of the phenomena studied. It also looks at behaviour at or beyond the edge of illegality in different domains, from the perspective of both victim respondents and attacker respondents. In this respect, it includes online trading, unauthorised access to various online accounts (internet banking, emails, social networks, gaming accounts), abuse of employee access, copyright infringement, phishing and ransomware. Both parts (the analysis of criminal files and the questionnaire survey) make a special distinction between acts of virtual violence and property interests.
