Seniors in the Czech Republic as victims and perpetrators of criminal offences

Annotation
The theoretical part of the book presents the current state of research on the victimization of the elderly by maltreatment. It also informs about the development of criminal activities of the elderly (persons over 65 years of age) in the view of Czech departmental statistics in recent years. The empirical part of the publication is devoted to the findings of research on the experiences of a representative sample of three thousand respondents aged 65 to 80 from all over the Czech Republic with 19 selected offences during the one-year period preceding the field survey. It examines the details of the victimization of the elderly by the offenses studied. It also addresses issues of latency, revictimization, and fear of crime. In the empirical part of the publication, attention is also paid to the knowledge about crime and the basic personality characteristics of senior offenders obtained by analysing the data contained in the selected sample of criminal files. This analysis of criminal files involved cases of persons with final convictions in the Czech Republic serving a sentence of unconditional imprisonment who were 65 years of age or older at the time of the offence.
