Criminal career in organized crime
Anotation
The publication offers a translation of a research study by prominent members of the criminological professional community, published by the UK Home Office in 2013. Given the focus of the work on the criminal careers of offenders involved in organised crime, the focus of this publication is on variables such as the criminal history, frequency or trajectory of the criminal careers of organised crime offenders. The authors of the research also attempted to identify risk factors in relation to involvement in organized crime based on prior offenses. The research sample of organised crime offenders was drawn from the Police National Computer System (PNC) database, which contains data on all sanctions imposed in the years under review. Subsequent quantitative analysis of the data then allowed comparison of the criminal history of the organised crime offender population with control groups of serious and general offenders. Despite its limitations and its narrow focus on the UK setting only, the study can provide a starting point for further exploration of the criminal trajectory of (not only) organised crime offenders. It provides a number of interesting insights which, in addition to providing information of practical relevance, create a platform for future research rather than a final product in terms of recommending new policy or practice.
