Anotation
The publication deals with the media as the dominant source of information about crime and punishment for the general public and its role in the process of defining crime as one of the risks of contemporary society. It presents the results of a quantitative content analysis of television crime news and the results of an analysis of audience perceptions of media representations of crime and punishment. The publication also presents the basic theoretical approaches dealing with crime as one of the risks of contemporary society, the relationship between crime and the media, news values associated with crime and the selection of crime news, and also summarizes traditional approaches to thinking about the impact of media representations of crime on the public.
