Regional crime and its reflection in the quality of life of residents
Annotation
The publication presents the results of research, which was primarily intended to verify the validity of some foreign criminological theories related to the links between the character of the environment, victimization and fear of crime. A questionnaire survey in eight model localities, representing different types of territory and degree of urbanity in the Czech Republic, focused on three basic social psychological characteristics of the localities - the degree of social disorganization, the level of informal control and the character of neighborly relations. The focus of the STUDY was to examine the sense of safety and fear of crime depending on the above physical and social characteristics of the locality, victimization, the rate of registered crime and individual factors such as the feeling of happiness or relationship with people. It turned out that fear of crime is determined by factors other than the urban form of the neighborhood and the level of crime. On the other hand, the level of unemployment or the share of households receiving social benefits does not influence the fear of criminal activity in any clear way.
