Drug users in prison - evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs
Annotation
The book presents the main results of empirical research on the treatment of drug users in Czech prisons. The research, conducted in 2016-2019, focused on the effectiveness of therapeutic programmes in specialised sections of prisons for drug users in prison, in terms of their potential impact on the criminogenic attitudes and thinking patterns of programme participants and on their criminal recidivism after release. In addition, the book also presents the results of an expert survey among the staff of specialized departments, an overview of the legal regulation of the treatment of incarcerated drug users, available statistical data, or findings on this issue from foreign or international studies. The authors place the findings of the research in the context of the current state of work with convicted drug users in prison, discuss the identified shortcomings, especially in relation to the continuity of addiction services offered to users after release from prison, and reflect on the possibilities of improving the current situation in this area.
