Annotation
The publication summarizes the main findings from research on the issue of Probation and Mediation Service pre-sentence reports, which serve as a basis for effective imposition of alternative sentences. It summarises the findings on probation officers' reports on the possibility of imposing community service and house arrest sentences. It presents the results of research on the impact of the information contained in the reports on the successful execution of the imposed alternative sentence and the subsequent criminal recidivism of convicted offenders. The publication also presents the results of an analysis of the opinions of judges, prosecutors and probation officers on the issue under study. Recommendations are also formulated to improve the application and further development of pre-sentence reports.
